Kaiju No. 8, the highly anticipated series based on Naoya Matsumoto's hit manga, has arrived for Spring 2024! It tells the story of Kafka Hibino, an ordinary individual living in a world plagued by Kaiju attacks. Hibino aspired to join Japan's Defense Force to defend innocent people from these devastating attacks. However, his path led him to a ground cleanup crew instead. Everything changes for Hibino one fateful day after a routine job.

 

In a world devastated by the ongoing threat of kaiju attacks, childhood friends Kafka Hibino and Mina Ashiro are determined to protect their home. Mina, now a respected captain in the Defense Force's Third Division at the age of 27, commands a unit dedicated to combating the monstrous kaiju menace. Meanwhile, Kafka, aged 32, has struggled to realize his dream of joining the Defense Force. Instead, he finds himself working on a kaiju clean-up crew, tasked with disposing of the remains left behind after intense battles.

Everything changes when Kafka encounters Reno Ichikawa, a spirited part-time worker at his company who dreams of becoming a Defense Force member like Mina. Reno's enthusiasm rekindles Kafka's dormant ambition, prompting him to make one final attempt at passing the Defense Force examination.

However, the fate takes a dramatic turn when Kafka inadvertently ingests a small kaiju during a routine clean-up operation. To his shock, Kafka discovers that this unexpected event has gifted him with a startling ability—he can transform into a kaiju himself. Terrified of the consequences and unsure who to trust, Kafka is forced to flee from the Defense Force, concealing his newfound power and adopting the enigmatic codename "Kaiju No. 8."
